Harrow the Ninth's liminal space sequences made me love these three so much. I like them as a hinge with either Pent in the middle or as a triad. I do think there would be some jealousy at first (especially with Abigail as the hinge) but I just cannot take Magnus's chiding too seriously. AU is fine. Canon is also fine, especially with or one (or more) of them being dead - maybe in the River, maybe with Ortus managing to escape the last battle or being saved from it.

I'm all for John in the middle of a big love pile, but what if just because they're into John doesn't mean they're into each other? These are both Vs for which I ship the legs, but I don't think A & B would be particularly interested independently, while not being otherwise truly antagonistic. With Rodney and Caldwell, it's probably more professional, whereas with Rodney and Ronon, they've still got the team thing, having each other's backs in life-threatening situations connection as well.
I'd like to see what happens if they decide they're ok with sharing, or they try to make it work, or they struggle with the situation, or everything is secrets and guilt and bad feelings, or any evolving combination of those. I'd like for John to have at least some self-doubts about it too, to think he shouldn't put them all in this position, regardless of what they think. (I'm also generally happy with John thinking he shouldn't be doing anything with even one of them, much less two.) I could see the degrees or types of closeness varying on the legs with John, or maybe a time-offset at first that only later brings the two legs into conflict or overlap.

There's this sense, I think stemming from the sets and scenarios and camera work on The Thick of It, that they've locked themselves together in this intense small space where the extreme pressure manifests very physically, and I think that these three are some of the characters who do it the most. I love to see them get all up in each other's space, all while their minds go at high speed, and while the balance between them constantly shifts.
I enjoy this dynamic translated into a ship context for them, where they're still fighty and unstable and also bad at relationships and the physicality turns into having high libido. I love Malcolm trying to stay in control (and Machiavellian and creatively sweary but ultimately not a bad person, just a horror), and Jamie angry-amused (and a bit made by Malcolm, but also his own man), and Julius wanting to float through and above it or maintain a veneer of doing so (and probably distressed by
his infatuation with Malcolm). (Feel free to take inspiration from In the Loop's character interactions as well, borrowing from Sir Jonathan "put your lips together and you blow" Tutt for Julius, and taking Malcolm and Jamie's mock-loving phone endearments literally.)
There are a couple of optional freeform ideas my brain only came up with as I was signing up, far too late to nominate them, but here they are for extra inspiration (and I could see Jamie and Julius somehow doing both at the same time, and there's a shameless pun I want to make here about their being unhinged):

What if you took that love story about a couple, one of whom is in Besźel and the other in Ul Qoma, grosstopically close but always Unseeing each other, and applied it to this exchange's V-shaped theme (whether it's a fully-separate two legs or A & B also form whatever kind of closeness with each other)?
Although I would like for the person in Besźel and the person in Ul Qoma to really be in each of these cities at the same time for at least some of the story (though they don't have to be from those places originally), I deliberately left the "hinge from neither" as open-ended as I could: is this a foreigner, is it somehow Breech, or even someone who used to belong to one or the other city but is now for some reason passing between the two, or something else I haven't thought of? What level of contact is there between any of them: are any of them traveling to meet or not meet; do they, wherever they are, touch or not touch (whether or not it's smutty); are they writing to, calling, or otherwise communicating with one another? I'd love a sense of that strange and perhaps melancholy, moody, yearning, careful-reckless separation coupled with awareness of the connection between them, heightened, flavored, enabled, or complicated by the V.

Every time I see John, Ronon, and Todd in a scene together, I think about this.
From the first time, when Ronon lends John his own weapon to kill the Wraith with, only for John to choose not to; to the second time, when Ronon escorts John to interview Todd in Atlantis and prowls around the cell the whole time they're talking warily, feeling each other out; to that time John and Todd are heading towards each other in the hive ship holding cell, and Ronon gets physically between them. It's got to be terrible for Ronon, to have to work with a Wraith at all, much less see whatever it is John's got going on with Todd, and yet his loyalty? love? trust? commitment? to/for John is such that he doesn't say no, I'm not doing this, I'm out.
And John must know it, he must be aware of what it means to Ronon, of the affront/disrespect of it. John's going to do what he has to do and what he thinks will achieve their objectives, but even just canonically, there's the personal dimension to his interactions with Todd that is probably the main reason their sometime-alliance works at all, and he knows it gets Ronon's hackles up. Put some shipping goggles on, and oh boy. If whatever he's doing with Todd is already something he doesn't think he should be doing, how much worse if he's also in some kind of equivalent relationship with Ronon, and Ronon doesn't leave him in spite of it?
Meanwhile, Todd, canonically or beyond, keeps flirting with John and giving Ronon these looks when he gets in the way of his playing with his toy, but has no confusion at all about why Ronon is not cool with their infatuation, even as he develops a respect for Ronon of a more generic sort than his appreciation for John. Which could be anything from the simple brotherhood of getting tortured together and saving themselves together, to the recognition of how alike and how suited to each other they really are in spite of their differences and betrayal games, to some kind of special gift of life connection. (And the brotherhood and suitedness are not so different from how John and Ronon fit.)
So I think this would be a very difficult situation, and I think it'd be fascinating to poke at, and also the tropes, especially as manifested physically in these very physical (and size-difference-y) characters, would be delicious. The jealousy! The protectiveness! The guilt!
